A new border highway is coming to McNutt Road

NM 139 — the Border Highway Connector — is a new state roadway that will link NM 136 (Pete V. Domenici Blvd) to NM 273 — McNutt Road itself — tying this land directly to the Santa Teresa Port of Entry, the City of Sunland Park, and the wider El Paso–Santa Teresa region. Final design and environmental clearance are complete, federal funding is secured, and right-of-way acquisition is underway.

Construction expected to begin late summer / fall 2026, with a 2–3 year build. Right-of-way acquisition began winter 2025/2026.
